Full-sized replicas of the three ships that brought the colonists, Susan ConstantGodspeedand Discovery were constructed at a shipyard in PortsmouthVirginia and placed on display at a new dock at Jamestown, where the largest, Susan Constant, could be boarded by visitors.
A contingent of approximately colonists departed England in late December in three ships—the Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery—under the command of Christopher Newport. Jamestown was spared only through a timely warning by a Virginia Indian employee.

These same tactics would later be deployed in North American invasions. Cold climate and thin, rocky soil limited farm size. By this means a great number of them not used to such pains died, and a great number of them seeing themselves brought from so quiet a life to such misery and slavery of desperation killed themselves.
